Silverfin Developer Community Newsletter

Hello, Technology Enthusiasts!

Welcome to our June edition of the Silverfin Developer Community Newsletter!
This month we’ve chosen to highlight a few small changes that can have a big impact.

Why on earth is the company number stored in company.vat_identifier? To avoid further confusion, and to support a setup where the company number and vat number can be different, this method has been replaced by two new ones 💡💡. Additionally, we’ve also exposed a new method to the external_company drop, which allows you to access custom values from a linked company’s reconciliations 🤯.

Next to changes on the company drop, we want to draw your attention to two new filters for strings. With the md5 filter you can convert a string into an MD5 hash to help you protect sensitive data 🔒. And the transliterate filter converts characters to their plain-text ASCII equivalents, especially handy if you have to deal with pesky special characters in your iXBRL! 🤦

With this in mind, sit back, relax and enjoy a fresh portion of good news from the Silverfin Developer Community.

Company registration number and VAT number 💡

The database variable, or method on the company drop, company.vat_identifier has been replaced by two new methods so you can differentiate between the company number and the VAT number 💡.
Don’t worry, the old name serves as an alias for one of the new ones! So there’s no data loss 🤝.
But we do recommend you start using the new methods as we will deprecate the old method eventually.

External company reconciliations - custom drop 🔗

The recently released feature Cross-Company Data already received its first extension 👏. It was already possible to fetch other information from reconciliations, such as the handle and results, but with this new feature you can also access values from custom drops directly. Do note it will not be possible to alter the data from a linked company. You’ll need to navigate to the relevant file and make any changes in the source ✅.

String filter: md5 🔒

If you’re dealing with sensitive data and need some way to store it more securely, consider using the md5 filter to convert a string into an MD5 hash. MD5 is one of the most widely used hashing algorithms.

String filter: transliterate ✍️

With the transliterate filter you can convert Unicode and accented ASCII characters into their plain-text ASCII equivalents. A common use case would be dealing with names that have special characters like é, ö, etc. which are often not accepted by the authorities when submitting (i)XBRL files ⛔.
